Default Bad distributor coil?

Hey guys, I got a new distributor a few months ago which didin't include the coil so I swapped the coil from my old dizzy. I'm having backfire through carb issues that I can't resolve. New holley 750 double pumper and new fuel pump. I've tried various timing settings, to no avail. I'm wondering if the new parts in that dizzy went bad already(Accel, $125 at auto parts store), or if maybe the coil is "bad". I thought coils pretty much either worked or they didn't. any thoughts? the wires are only about 3 months old and they are routed correctly. 78 with HEI btw

I just swapped coils and same, swapped out dizzy with an older one that I know works, no improvement, tested fuel pressure, 7ish...checked again for vacuum leaks with a cigar and smoke. ready to blow this car up.

I ran the engine awhile with the valves too tight, could this cause intake valves to get burned?
