I removed all of the wiper components to seal up my wiper bay. When I was putting everything back together, one of the three studs on the wiper transmission mount broke off.
I can't seem to find these in any of the vendors sites. Does anyone know of somewhere to purchase these? Or, is there a way to replace the stud?
I'm also trying to find out the part number. I found it in my AIM (Sheet 1-A14), but the punch goes thru the number, it begins with '39562', and ends with a '6'. If anyone has the full number I would appreciate it.
Windshield Wiper Transmission Reinforcement, Outer. LH: 3956285, RH: 3956286. Will probably have to find a used one. Shouldn't be too hard to find as 69 thru 82 are all the same. Could drill out the broken stud and weld in a new one. It's a 10-24 thread.
Sure.. tomorrow though.. and judging from the time of this post I'm gonna take a shot at later than earlier.. Mash, got your note below just added pics for reference.

Thanx. I the reason I asked for the pic was to see if I was thinking the same thing the OP was talking about. I broke one of the studs on mine. My car is a 79. On my vehicle it appears the aforementioned part is integrated into the firewall.

Oldguard-
They may look that way but they are not. The screws may be covered with that goop GM used.
There are three transmission screws and when you pull it off you should see the plate screws. The plates in the picture were removed from a 1979. I couldn't find any in the shop so I had them pull these off for the picture.
Took us 10 minutes to get them off.. But this car is missing a windshield, dash pad and oh.. everything else...
You're right Richard, they are horrible to reach up behind the pads to install and you must hold the nuts while someone else turns the bolt head to tighten them up.
I, too, have a wiper mounting plate (post 13) with a broken stud. I was able to obtain a used replacement which I have yet to mount. Any ideas on how to safely peen the aluminum rivets? I want to stay original, but am afraid that I'll damage my windshield by swinging a hammer.
Anybody have the plate with the 3 studs for the wiper motor? I have a stud broken on mine.
So do I. I broke a. Stud on mine over 2 years ago. Would like to see a pic of one. If they are available I will buy one or find out how to get the broken stud out and put in another stud. I took my wiper motor out. Really need help going about this b/c I need windshield wipers.
Here are a few pics of mine. The studs appear to be welded to the plate in some manner. Wouldn't be too hard to come up with a home-brew fix, if you didn't want to chase down a good used one.
As for re-riveting it.. you could use the original style buck rivet or you could use a large pop rivet. I beleive either will hold. Remove is easy once you get to it.. If you use a thin chisel they will pop right off.
