Default Does a dual points GM points distributor need a special cap?

If i put the vacuum advance in, I can't get the adjuster screw on the points to line up with the sight hole in a stock cap. The breaker plate looks TOTALLY different than any points distributor I've ever seen. I know the plate is a little bent, I need to straighten it. All of this is factory. I'm not sure what year it's off of though.

And here's a hi-res shot. It turned out great considering the lighting sucked. I didn't want to use a flash because it would shadown and mess up some of the detail.

You need a special dual point cap. This cap has 2 windows....one for each set of points. Factory dual points were used in solid axle Corvettes. My buddy's 62 has one. I know they were also used prior to that...not sure which years. Chuck

I can't find that cap in ANY of my catalogs. Seeing as how I plan to go to a pertronix eventually I think I'm just going to change the breaker plate.

Anyone have a spare breaker plate they don't need any more?

Just do not go with the Ignitor II that thing is Seriously Flawed..They have had tons of problems with them...Mine lasted 2months before it self destructed.. and left me stranded...I sent it back and they did refund my money....

Steve -
That's a dual point plate, and it won't line up with a standard single-window cap. You need to replace the plate with a single-point plate out of any point-style Chevy distributor. While you're robbing the plate out of another distributor, take the stock weights with you as well - those aftermarket weights you're running are no good, and will not produce a good complete advance curve. Yank those things off and throw them in the trash. The stock weights with those silver springs will run really well, but your spings are upside-down - flip them over. Throw a good set of points in the thing and forget the aftermarket electronic conversion - the points will run better.

This may be slightly off topic, and I may be slightly drunk, but that is a really, really cool photograph.

Thanks lars. I actually have the stock weights, I'll put them back on. Do you know of a place that sells the breaker plate seperately? It's all I need.
