I bought a new fuel gauge for my 81 to replace the OE one that danced. Installed it and discovered the gauge read full with 1/3 tank and double distance past full when actually full. The vender was nice enough to take that one back and send a new one. It does the same thing. I tested the resistor on the back of the gauge and it showed 90 ohms.

Can you get to the sending unit?
If so, place your Ohm meter leads on each terminal. Raise and lower your float arm and verify Ohm meter linear deflection.
sending unit reads correct with meter on dash plug. this is issue with fuel gauge. Willcox told me some repl units have resistor built in and to try without external resistor
Willcox was right, resistor inside gauge means don't use external. This was not even his part and he answered my question.
I respond to that by planning to spend my future money with Willcox corvette and would encourage others to do so too.
