Default Wha is this grounding?

I set out (again) to start working on putting the carpet in my 76 L48. I have noticed two seperate white and blue wires that runs across the back of the passenger area (as in where it ramps up aggressively around where the seat backs are before going to the "storage area"). The wires seem to run from the passenger side, expose themselves along the back "ramp", tuck into a whole in the back of the "ramp" and then pop out again on the drivers side down near the door jam. Then the white wire is grounded to the back of the "ramp" area not to far from where it pops out again on the drivers side

This wire seems frayed and it is obviously not a good ground. What does this wire ground? I'm wondering if it could have been the source of some of my gauge issues.

Also, there is a black wire that is grounded to the passenger side bird cage near the door frame. The wire is cut and I have no idea what it once grounded. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Dont have a 76 but could the blue and white wires be for the little button that lights up your door ajar on the dash. Sounds like the black wire is a ground for the dash. Ya may want to reground that.

The blue and white wire both go to the door ajar switch. there is a black wire that grounds the switch. The drivers side is the same.

The black wire on the drivers side door piller is the main ground for the dash.

Dave.

hanks gents. I probably only put 200 miles on it before I took it down for the interior resto, but I can't remember if the door ajar light even ever lit.

For what its worth, this black wire I'm referring to is on the passenger side. Seems too thick a gauge to be for a little switch, but not something really thick like the dash ground.

Bubba got me good. I found a multitude of things cut, unplugged, etc on this car as I started taking apart the interior.

Do you have the assembly instruction manual, aka the AIM for your 76, and a good wiring diagram? I like the wiring diagram from doc rebuild. Its in color and pretty detailed, laminated too. They dont cost much and these 2 things are a must have when toying with these old cars, as lots have changed through the years by past owners.
