Hi All. Up to the point on my 75 restore project in replacing rear bumper. I removed the nuts on the front bumber but the top nuts were rusted solid. I pried the top of the bumper out a bit and used a thin cutting wheel to cut the screw to remove the bumper.
My I don't want to do this with the rear bumper. Does anyone have the process and pics to remove the rear bumper. Do you have to remove the gas tank to get at the nuts? When installing the new bumper should you remove and leave off the under bumper support? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you are replacing the rear bumper just cut the old one away enough that you can get to the nuts from the back of the vehicle. Old bumper is shot or you would probably not be replacing it. Hope this helps
Not sure if you're replacing with fiberglass bumpers? If so, you will find you'll likely need to remove the corner pieces on the rear support, as well as those by the license plate area. You can also remove the plastic tailight supports, and mount the lenses directly to the bumper. I chose to leave the rear bar in there for collision protection, esp for the gas tank. Up front, you can leave everything there, or just remove the honeycomb, or remove just about everything to save weight. I left the vacuum bar in place for impact protection/structural support, and fabbed-up some supports for the lower valance out of square tubing.
