I have a 1972 Base model stock 350, Bubba got to the fuel line and cut it about 4 inches from the Q jet and put in a rubber line with a glass inline filter. I want to get this cleaned up. I was wondering if anyone uses those braided fuel lines like the ones from Russel performance, or should I just use an OEM replacement line? If I use the braided line type, what do I need to make it work. Ill be putting the OEM replacement filter back in the Q Jet. I did search and read a bunch of posts on here but didn't find one that had the pros and cons
Hi Paul,
The stock line is pretty straight forward. You can see it in this picture. It makes a 60 degree right turn toward the carb just where it disappears under the air cleaner.
Certainly not as spiffy looking as a braided line would be.

Alan
that looks nice and clean, I may just go that route, it looks clean and I hope would just hook right up with out a bunch of adapters. Thanks for the pic.
Hi dc,
The one problem might be the fitting in the carb. Sometimes the threads stripped or the seat in the fitting for the flare on the fuel line distorted.
Other than that it should be pretty straight forward.

Alan
You should always double wrench when working on the connection between the fuel line, and the carb fuel inlet. If you don't you can wreck both the carb inlet, and the fuel line. Bubba may not have done that, and may have wrecked both. The fuel line can twist, and the inlet threads are easily stripped.
For twisted fuel lines, Bubba likes to cut out the twisted part, and replace it with a rubber line. For the stripped inlet threads, Bubba likes to remove the internal filter, exopy the inlet into the carb, and put an external filter in the line.
So be carefull, since you have that external filter, Bubba may have epoxied the inlet into the carb.

Go with the braided fuel line unless you are working on an all original motor. Much easier to work with looks good too!

I was thinking that very thing. I'm planning on sending the Q Jet to Lars here real soon, I wanted to have the fuel line all ready to go when I get the carb back. I was just wanting to see what others have done, Its always nice to use someone's good ideas and not make the same bad ones. I have seen them cross threaded but not epoxied. If it can be done wrong bubba will find a way
