Default Power Steering Noise - The Fix Was to Easy

I had a power steering noise for several weeks and it got worse as time went on. I had already made my mind up that a complete rebuild was in order and was doing forum searches for the best way to go. Then I ran across a posting about purging air out of the lines. So first thing the next moring, I put the front end up on jack stands, topped off the PS fluid, and turned the steering wheel clock to clock, not sure thats the correct term, but full left then full right 15 - 20 times, topped off PS fluid, then repeated. Took it for a drive and was amazed at how quite it was. Even setting in the garage running, I can turn the steering wheel back and forth with VERY little noise at all. My point here is, it pays to do some research before tearing everything apart. My 76 Vett is now quiter then the wifey.

Probably had more to do with adding fluid than anything else.

That was my first thought also several weeks ago, sounded just like it was low if not out, but that wasn't the case as I over filled it more then once. Used a turkey baster to get some back out. A forum search of "power steering noise" steered me to the fix.

Problem with the theory is that just a few minutes of normal use bleeds the system by itself. You really gain nothing by initial bleeding except a quicker bleed. Once you drive it on the road and make a few good turns, its bled. Glad it worked for you.
