Default Paint code question

Looking at a 1981 coupe that is painted bright blue. Owner says the car was originnaly white but the current blue was a corvette color. Was there a bright blue available in 1981? It needs some touch up now maybe complete job later, I wanted to match the paint. How about bright blue in 1980 or 1982, anyone know the codes if bright blue was available on those years? Thanks

Chevrolet initially planned to offer Bright Blue Metallic as an available color in 1981. Before production began, the Bright Blue was cancelled, and replaced with Mahogany Metallic. As a result, there was one Bright Blue 81 "pilot line" car built, but no regular production 81's were painted Bright Blue. The paint code for 1981 Bright Blue Metallic was 24.

Bright Blue was not offered in 80 or 82 either. Dark Blue was offered in 80, 81 & 82, and a very attractive Silver Blue, was offered in 82.

Well dang, there is no telling what this paint color code is. Any suggestions on how to match it? Current owner has no idea.

If your just trying to match up the color on the car, remove the gas door and take it to a local automotive paint supplier. Most auto body supply companies have a scanner that can read a sample of the paint, and come up with a paint code.

It's not foolproof, but will get you a pretty close match. After a sample spray out, you can always add a little blue, black or white to the mix, until you get a perfect match.

What code numbers are on the car's trim tag (driver's door jamb)? That should tell you what color the car was painted at the factory.
