Hey guys. This is my first post on the forum but it has helped me with a lot of other things but this has me stumped. I work the night shift so I use my headlights a lot. The other night I was driving and when I switched my headlights to bright they flickered and then went completely out. I switched them to dim and they came back on. I few minutes later I tried again and they worked fine. Last night I went to leave and I had no dim lights but the brights worked! I had to drive like that with everyone flashing there lights at me. About 10 minutes in to the drive they started flickering and went out for bout 5 seconds and came back on. This happened multiple times. This morning the same thing. No dim and the brights flicker peridiotcly. I was thinking that it may be a bad ground so I took off the ground and cleaned it and sprayed with wd-40. No change. The headlight switch feels good as far as not feeling wore out. The dimmer switch feels good. I'm pretty sure it's working because when I switch to dim they all go out. I also noticed that the dim lights seem really dim with the brights on. I'm not sure but I thought the dims got brighter when the brights are turned on. Any help on this would be greatly apreaciated. Thanks guys!
Not that familiar with 82 but did you check the owners manual to see if there is a separate headlight relay in the fuse box other than one possibly built into the headlight switch?
I would say its the switch in the column. Even though it feels good they will do that when they go out. Contacts are probable worn inside the switch. How many miles on the car?

160xxx miles. She's my daily driver. I was thinking it maybe the switch but didn't understand why the brights would work but not the dim. So you think it would be the headlight switch and not the dimmer switch?
Thanks guys. I'm going to start with the dimmer switch as that is the cheaper part. Only $13 locally. Going to pick it up in the morning after work. Keeping my fingers crossed. And to anyone I brightlighted on the way here IM SORRY! And thanks for letting me know I've got my brights on! Now were both blind!
Well I finally found time to replace the dimmer switch. Works like a champ now. Thanks again for everyone's help. Saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks!
