Default Hood Insulation

I purchased a custom hood from ACI, but there is no way to attach insulation to the inside of the hood. I am afraid of excessive heat ruining the paint on the outside of the hood. Am I paranoid or is their something I can do to prevent this from happening.

The paint on my hood appears to be fine....also no insulation on the under side.

Thanks. I have put in to many hours of work preparing for paint to have been able to prevent a problem as mentioned. I am probably just paranoid. :nopity

A hood insulation kit will usually have the mounts for the hood - the male side of these connectors must be adhered to the underside of the hood - to hold the insulation on - this is true even of factory hoods.

I've been running my hood with no insulation for about 12 years without a problem. I also have lacquer paint which is a lot more delicate than urethanes so if it held up I'm sure the newer paints will. JMHO.

I'm planning to remove my hood insulation and paint the underside flat black. This issue has been discussed before, and the concensus is that it isn't need to protect the paint.

I was at Pro Team Corvette a few weeks ago. Out of about 150 pristine classic Vettes that I saw, I don't recall any of them with hood insulation. And these were $30-$120K cars. That's what gave me the idea to remove mine.

As indicated in earlier posts, the "pins' to hold insulating blanket on glue to underside.

Not sure of the issues involved, the General thought enough of it to spend the $ to install, and virtually all new cars have it today.

It's no biggie to install, so I guess it's a matter of personal choice.

Hope this helps. :chevy

You'll be plenty fine without insulation on your hood. I don't have it and I'm not planning to ever put any on.

Ran my '74 for 16 years without hood insulation until the paint got a little hazzy and started to check. Had hood repainted and I'm now using insulation.

If you do not want to go the stock route DynaMat supreme (foil on one side) should work great.
