I always do, because I don't like the few second zero oil pressure start.
Unfortunately, not all engines are as well designed as our bazillion year old Chevys!
I hate those horizontally mounted filters; at least they are usually pretty small.

defanatly! I set the new filter out and pour oil in. pour the rest of the quart into the engin. next quart top off the filter, pour the rest in the engine. ect till filter is full.
No nay-sayers? Sheesh, you guys are picky...
Maybe I should say I use Rotella T?
I thought by now everybody would be jumping down everyone else's throats.
Oil threads are supposed to ROCK!
Nope...never have, and never any problems. The oil film thats remaining is plenty sufficient for protecting the journals during the few seconds of idling that it takes to build pressure.
I even once putted around my property in my racecar for about a minute before I realized I forgot to put in some oil....drove it back to the garage added oil.....raced that weekend and the rest of the season on that engine without any problems.
Never have. Actually never it gave it a thought. But after reading the posts it does make sense. Think I will start on next oil change.
I'm in the same boat, I never was taught that way and never really gave it much thought. ( always lube the "O" ring though)
I will prime the next one though, just for kicks!
never have forever. DO oil up the rubber washer on top, make sure the old one didn't stay up there, never over tighten. Never had a problem. Start it up, let it idle up until you get pressure, check for leaks.
