I guess I used the wrong terminology. Bikes are more my specialty, this vette is my hobby.
The shift linkage. You are supposed to put a little metal block under the shifter, and through the slots to hold the stick in neutral while you attach the linkage rods to the tranny.
This keeps the stick from moving and giving you a sloppy shift.
