I have gotten to the point I will start the final assembly of the pinion shaft/bearings on my '76 differential. I am using a new 'crush sleeve'. From reading many threads I understand it will take a fair bit of effort to tighten the pinion nut to start the 'crush'.
I am afraid my 1/2" Blue Point impact wrench will not get this started. I need some feedback about how to start the crush. I know once that it starts it gets to be a real carefull process to achieve that desired rotational torque.
Has anyone used a hydraulic press with a thick plate on the top of the sleeve pressing down onto another thick plate to start the 'crush'?
