as posted above, the hardest part is removing the old headers. you may need to remove/destroy the oil dipstick to get the headers off. after that it's a straight forward job. corvette central has good prices and the systems fit well. use anti-seize on the bolts.
Is there a long tube system that goes all the way back? I am going to be doing the same thing, sidepipes back to the underbody exhaust and plan on right now using stock BBC manifolds and a corvette central magnaflow system but would rather use long tubes. Do they make a complete bolt up underbody long tube system anywhere?
I have not seen a complete long tube system. CC has the shorty complete system. In my case I got long tube headers separate, then went with the 2.5" Pype's exhaust system.

I got Hooker Competion headers and a matching Hooker exhaust system. It bolts to the header collectors and runs all the way out back. Kind of quiet but cost effective.
As far as install is concerned, is it all just bolting or is there more to it? Like any welding or anything?
The stock exhaust is bolt up. The assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows the complete installation and lists the original part numbers for everything you're going to need.
Hi Jay,
I changed from a 69 style side exhaust system to under car exhaust on my 71.
It was really very straight forward once I had all the parts. The thing that may be different in your case is that you'll need exhaust manifolds and a heat-riser or spacer if you don't have them.
If you're thinking of a stock type system the welded aluminized system from Corvette Central is an easy install at a good price. Being in Grand Haven you might even pick it up. They often do have very reasonable or free shipping however. Since the system is already welded it's a pretty BIG box.
Good Luck.
Regards,
Alan
Just curious, but does anybody make a 3" stainless system? If I were going to switch from the side exhaust, I'd prefer a 3" system with headers.
Nope, if you want a SS system in 3" format you're going to piece that puppy together for yourself. I just did my '71 with a 3". I didn't want all SS, didn't see the need as I knew I was going to paint it after I was completed. It was never my intention, but I jumped in head first and did all the welding myself and designed my own layout. Going to 3" presents a whole new set of minor issues with fitment than playing safe with a 2 1/2" system. I was pissed half the time doing the install as I wanted it just right where the 3" is just a bit too big here and there. At the end of the day it came out awesome, sounds totally bad *** and looks cool from the back with those big pipes.
If you are thinking of doing it yourself (even if you have someone else weld it together) I'm willing to assist with information on just the pieces and part #s you'll need without buying too many pre-bent mandrel pipes to get the job done. I searched the site and others, but no one, that I found at least, listed out the necessay components to do a 3' right.

Do you have pictures? I'd like to see how it's run. I don't think the trans crossmember would be a problem for me since I have an aftermarket one. I'm not ready to change my system now, but I would like to have some ideas for the future. I'll take part numbers if you have them handy, if not, no worries. Thanks.
Can i ask why you want to switch? I am thinking of going to side pipes. I went to two duals a couple years ago, like it but side pipes seem like a good way to go.

That is what I am looking for. Curious as to where you found it.
