Default LS Swap: Wiring Harness questions

On my LS swap, I'm getting a custom harness for my car. What I don't understand is what will remain on my existing harness? How much of the internal wiring in the engine bay stays vs goes away.

On my 64 resto-mod that has a TPI system, it seems like they are two different animals that don't integrate except for the ignition switch.

Is that the same for this swap, or is it more complicated?

I've also read/heard that this can be the most difficult part of the project. My 64 seems pretty straight forward

I didn't remove anything from the engine bay. IIRC the wires to the coil, the plug to the original alternator, the wire to the choke and maybe a couple of wires at the starter were taped up and tucked away.

A custom harness for the engine would eliminate a lot of wires that go to ancillary computers and things that you won't use like EGR but the engine harness is really separate from the rest of the cars wiring.

The great thing about a LS swap is that you only need ~6 wiring connections to get the engine running. It's more complicated than that in implementation (mostly layout and location of relays) but GM did a great job with the wiring design on the LS engines. Almost like they intended them to be reused from day 1.
