Default radiator seals too thick?

I just installed a Zips direct fit aluminum radiator (DeWitts). I ordered a radiator seal kit, it said for A/C and HD cooling. I got them all glued on and when I put the radiator in it would not sit right because the seals were too thick. I matched them up against my old ones for my 3 core radiator and they were the same thickness. I ended up having to shave about 3/8" off the seals thickness to get the radiator to line up and sit in the upper and lower cushions properly.

Anyone else have this problem? I'm pretty sure i ordered the correct seals.

I am about to replace all my seals, radiator and fan shroud. The replacements look way thicker than what came off.........

Mine were from Dr. Rebuild

I think I should have ordered seals from a '78 w/ HD cooling and A/C, since there were no 4 core radiators offered in '81? Am I right?

either way, it's in there now, but it would be nice if DeWitts would tell us what seals are recommended with thier radiator.

Qwank,
Can you tell us the part numbers you ordered. I would like to look into this as well.
Thanks,

Hi Tom,

I ordered the RA-233 radiator

and the ZS-335 seal kit which included ZS-417 and ZS-115.

It was the ZS-115 seals that were too thick. (about 3/8") The part number on the bag was correct as was the description.

Thanks

Qwak,
We are going to be making a notation on the website for the RA-233, and possibly we may have to create a kit for your application. The ZS-113 would be the better support seal kit for this, as it is for the earlier car with a thicker radiator.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
As always, let us know if you have any questions.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, using the '78 seals. I got mine to work though, just had to do a little cutting. it would have been nice to just glue them on and go, but nothing is ever easy, right?
