Timing chain sprocket
Hi everyone. I am changing the cam in my BB. I am also changing the timing chain and sprockets. When I removed the sprocket on the crank, I needed to use a puller almost the entire length of removal. The new sprocket slides nicely on the crank right past the first key and around 1/2 way onto the second. It hangs up about 3/8 inch from the shoulder on the crank. It is solid there. Won't budge even with some moderate "coaxing". Can't feel or see anything wrong with the key.
Any thoughts? Anyone had this problem?

I did some additional research. It turns out these are pressed on. Several manufacturers sell tools for use with the harmonic balancer installation tool. Live and learn. I even put the old one on. Must be old age.

You could try heating the new sprocket up with a heat gun or torch that would expand it a little for easier installation. Mine took a fair amount of "convincing" to get it on all the way. I use a piece of pipe that slid over the snout and some tapping from a hammer to get the job done.
