I am replacing the old ignition lock cylinder with a new one. i have read Mr. Jim Shea's papers and still have problems. How do I reinstall the new cylinder? It seems that the spring loaded tab hits the housing and prevents the cylinder from sliding in. How do I get past this? This is a 73 with standard column.
Depress the tab to get it into the housing. When the lock cylinder is in all the way, the tab will pop into the slot that is there and it will hold the lock cylinder in the housing.
It does seem to me that the lock cylinder tab was beveled on the leading edge. Your picture does not show it beveled. I know that the workers in St. Louis just pushed the lock cylinder into the column head with no assembly aids.
Can you come up with just a thin shim that can hold down the tab as you lead it into the steering column housing?
