Changed mine in my '72 some years ago and I don't remember any special procedure. If memory serves me correctly, I detached the cable inside on the pedal mechanism. Then disconnected the cable at the carb and loosened the clamp on the cable jacket at the carb. I pulled the cable out toward the engine compartment. When I installed the new one, I carefully pushed the new cable through the rubber grommet on the firewall and proceded to connect things on both ends just like the old one I took off. It's not at all difficult. When you reconnect through the carb clamp, make sure you adjust the position of the new cable so you get wide open throttle plates when the pedal is held to the floor. Good Luck!

So, what is wrong with the old one? Most 69s have a weak pedal bell crank and dont open the carb fully. Its usually not the cable.

You should change the pedal assy to a 70 and up. Much better than the 69. The cable has a 1/4x20 bolt that bolts in from under the dash. It holds it tight to the firewall. The rest is common sense.

The 69 assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows the installation and includes the note on how to set it. UPC 6 Sheets D1 and D2.

Thank you for your replies,as soon as I get my drivers side Hooker side pipes back up(3 failed attempts and hurt my back again) I'll try one of the suggestions. As far as "why"goes I had a mechanic change to a 4 barrel cable(was orig a 3x2),now putting the 3x2 back on and need the proper cable. He was doing some other work and I was't around to watch him. That was 20 years ago and there really nothing wrong or worn with the parts, but will look into the 70 set up if it's earier on my back.Mike
