I am planning on installing a Denny's 2.5 inch driveshaft in my 73 stick car, I was told with the 3" unit I would have to drop the rear out to install, will the 2.5 inch one be able to be installed without removing the pumpkin? thanks as always for the help. Jim
I purchased their half-shafts, but not the driveshaft as I already had one custom made for the TKO-600 I installed. I guess worst case scenario is if you purchased the 2.5" and couldn't get it in there without removing the rear diff, that might be your only other option? I can't imagine you would have to do that though. Sorry not much help, but thought I would give my .02 cents.
Mr Sidepipes : I recently switched out my original driveshaft for a 2.5" custom built one from Fort Wayne Clutch.
I can tell you that my 72 is stock and I had no problems whatsoever with slipping it back in without touching the differential.
You will have no problems either, just be aware that you need to carefully inspect for your tunnel insulation and anything that may have come loose/dislodged over time and put it back into place as there is not alot of clearance up in that tunnel space. This includes your ground cable, etc that may have been altered. You just want to tuck everything up nice and tight to ensure nothing rubs.
