Finally got the lower left dash out, to replace broken tach needle. Wasn't really that bad once I learned to undo the trip reset **** assembly. Popped out unbelievably easy! While I have it apart, I'm thinking of replacing the speed/tach/center cluster with LED bulbs. Is there anything electrical I have to do besides just replacing bulb for bulb? Also, any opinions pro/con? Thanks and have a great weekend, Bill
Should be able to replace bulb with bulb. I purchased some in 2009 but they did not work in im 79 dash b/c the printed circuit was damaged on some of the areas where the socket is attached. I purchased a new printed circuit board but have not installed it. I will put the led bulbs in once I replaced the damaged circuit board. The dimmer switch will not work once you put the led bulbs in.
I have just replaced my bulbs with blue Led’s when I had the dash out. I also put White Face decals on all the instruments. I know some may like, some may dislike and others will hate it, I like the result. The bulb will only work one way, if they don’t light up pull them out and turn them around the other way. As started in the other link they don’t dim. I replaced all courtesy lights with blue Led’s as well. I think I paid about $10 for 20 super bright Led’s from ebay. The instrument holder is green plastic, I think this takes a little from the lights so next time I have the panel out I will paint it either white or silver to help with the brightness. As yopu can see the centre of the gauges aren’t lit as much as the edges.
Photos show two led’s in the wrong way. Bottom right on speedo and top right on taco.
