I don't claim NOR think I know so very much on building engines even though I've been doing it for over 40 years. Ok I did a lil search around on performance ECM chips for the 82, and.....really? This company [I'm not going to name them] claims 60hp increase and 7mpg over stock by just using there chip? 0 really-I'm not sure what planet there located on? if that was the case we crossfire guys would not be spending hrs & hrs on grinding/porting the choked up intake [I would love to get a hold of THAT engineer! 3/4 inch ports!} and/or spending $$$$'s on Renagades & TBI's. 60hp for less than $100???? I'm not that stupid. Heck we'll just buy your 60hp chip, change the oil and be done! I dislike being suckered, don't buy into that crap. I can ONLY hope someone out there can prove me wrong, because I'll give you $500.00 for 60 more hp. w/a 15min chip change, heck I won't even get my hands dirty! on a otherwise stock 82 Vette.
...and my car's a show car. If you look at it in the dark, with the lights off , facing the other direction.
I think you're asking them the wrong question - ask them how. 160* thermostat, race gas, advance the ignition to almost the point it'd ping driving off the ramps and there's 60 hp and it could be 7 mpg at BSFC
It's like EPA numbers - it's merely a number. Still for $500 - headers, lose the cat, and put a flow-through muffler, tune and you'll have the same kinds of increases.... this time, real world.
i doubt it gives me 60hp.
it does improve conveter lock up (stays engaged under load)
and a little better spark curve (more advance)
a litttle richer mixture under acceleration.
I have a chip, lower t-stat, can't tell a real difference in the performance, it does take a little time for the ECM to figure things out after switching the "performance" with the "stock" and vice versa.
I have the stage 1 chip and it woke the car up in the low and mid range but not 60hp. Maybe in some rpm ranges it would be 25lb-ft and maybe 15 HP. The engine still falls on its face at 5000 rpm.

I got my Crossfire PORTED to the MAX by my lonesome and a fully built 355cid under it forged liteweight pistons & rods, low-friction rings, ported later model GM heads, 440/454 cam w/1.6 rockers SS headers. I was fairly pleased at the crank dyno results>no I won't post it. I'm not opening that bag of worms....lets say this your C-4 any yr. better be ready [exception the ZR-1] btw; SuperBuickGuy I also have a T/Buick that might interest you?

Mr hugie82...I figure at best what you claim, however 60hp?

asking any questions, probably get a young college person that drives a focus and reading her/his computer screen, just was looking around and that one gave me the giggles! thought I'd throw it out there to make someone else laugh also!

Not one built to the extent of my 82 crossfire then.....> I'll probably be checking out your C-4 tail lights ......I'm not delusional.
