Default 1972 Wheel Well Carpet

I am trying to install carpet in my 72 and have an an ACC carpet set from Willcox that is confusing.
One end is staright cut and the other curved with a molded dimple.
My old carpets match either way and I would like to do it right.
Has any one gone through this and how do you identify right from left, top to bottom, and front to back.
Thanks in advance for your help

The flat part goes toward the rear. Shape the rounded portions to match the wheel wells on each side. They fit better than it looks at first, just take your time and there was a little bit of trimming but mine is a convertible.

Hi f,
Part of the trick to getting the wheel well carpet to fit is the trimming required.
First the front section needs to be trimmed so the portion that slips down behind the bulkhead behind the seats is short enough to FULLY tuck in, but long enough to stay tucked securely.
Then the carpet needs to be slit for the mounting bracket for the shoulder belt reel cover.
Then the carpet needs to be cut for the drain tube for the astro vent. (if a coupe)
The rear of the carpet is generally longer than it needs to be so it needs to be cut to length where it meets the carpet on the rear bulkhead.
It's not easy but is certainly doable with some patience and care.
Regards,
Alan

Underside of driver's side, front is to the right. Note cuts for shoulder reel mount (round), shoulder reel cover bracket (slit), and drain tube (round).

I just finished this on my '70. I took the OE pieces and matched them up to the new ones (also ACC so I know exactly what you're dealing with) then trimmed the new pieces to within roughly 3/4" of the old pieces. There is a bracket that sticks up for mounting of the seatbelt/ inertia reel cover, and I first tried to locate that slot as closely as possible to the original, then shoved it into place and continued trimming the edges until it fit as it should.

It probably took me 2-3 hours to get each piece correctly trimmed, and I glued each side down in the back of the compartment with permatex spray adhesive which seemed to work well...

.

BTW, I've never installed carpet before. It's not easy, it takes patience, just be careful and whittle the edges down a little at a time and it will be fine
