Default L31R in C3

A few months ago I was talking about putting a L31R crate motor in my 79 C3. No one knew if the vortec engine with a vortec TPI manifold would fit under the hood. I am very relieved to say, yes, yes it does. I still need to hook up some minor things, like gas and electric. But the motor and injection fit fine. Just thought, I would pass it along.

Another fuel injection fan here.

I think the vortec motor is probably the best bang for your buck crate motor around. Does it have stock internals, or have you upgraded anything?

So far it is just a stock truck motor, other than the TPI of course. Stock with a truck throttle body it makes 255hp 330lbs of torque. So I thought I would see what it will do with TPI. I also put a 700R4 in last year. If it needs more, I will put a cam in it. But even as a stock truck motor it makes more power than a L98.

Thought I would update this thread.

I have the motor in and running, I am still sorting out gauges and the transmission a 700R4. Today I had one of those experience's that make you rethink working on old cars. I had just put the center gauge cluster in last night, and this morning I was setting the IAC and TPS when the car just stopped running and would not start. I tracked it down to no fuel pressure, then I noticed no check engine light. I figured this was something to do with the TPI harness or computer. I called the shop (Larry's Electric) that sold me the harness and computer about a year ago to see if they could help me out with some ideas. These are the kind of people that makes working on old cars fun. The owner gave me a list of things to check, and when I called back with the result he was able to tell what was wrong and how he knew! He told me it was a bad wire and which wire it was. I could have done this, in a day or three. But thanks to a supplier that new his stuff and cared about his customers, it took half an hour from phone call to fixed. So if anyone is doing a TPI or LS1 project, these guy would be worth checking out Larry's Sorry if this sounds like a commercial but these guy did right by me so I figure the least I can do is pass it along.
