Noticed some hard shifting recently in my 1974 350 "J" engine. Climbed under it today and noticed that the line that connects from the shift cable and goes up to the bracket beneath the brake booster has snapped - what is this line?
Thanks for any help!
Issue is that the car has been shifting slow and harder than usual - not slipping...
Was advised it might be the modulator but it the lines are ok - thats what I was checking when I noticed the snapped cable...
Yes - it is "B" in the above diagram - no it does not go to the carb it is mounted below the brake booster on the steering column next to the firewall on the drivers side... is this the kick down cable? Could this be the source of the aforementioned issues?

If you have a TH400 you have a modulator, pretty sure only the th350 needed an extra cable.
B is part of the sifter lock, if the round part in Alan's picture doesn't go all the way up the key wont release.
so its not a kick down cable - just locks the shifter in place meaning it wouldnt be causing any issues aside from being able to move the shifter around without pushing the button?

Sorry to say the cable is not the problem with the shifting.
I know very little about repairing these cars and less about transmissions, but I might change the transmission filter just to see if it helps or you can wait for a good answer from a transmission guy.
