Default Ignition switch lock position

Ok some help needed. As I remember to lock the ignition switch with the key inside I used to have to put the transmission in the reverse gear right ??
My problem is my ignition switch is not turning all the way back to that little notch position that says lock even with tranny in reverse or any other gear

Hi rwk,
Check that when in reverse the cable is moving the lever on the steering column as far UP as it can go.
Regards,
Alan

Ok I see it on the aim page 322 I guess I have to remove the console. I wonder why they only designed it to lock in reverse would it do any harm if I just bypass this

Open the hood. It is right under the brake master cylinder.
