Default Auto Shifter Mods

Modified the stock shifter for the auto tranny in my 76 vette.

I drag race it a couple times a month, this helps me not go from first to third or second to neutral.

Added two pieces of steel so it now works similar to a B&M quarter stick.

Put shifter in 1st (far right) then push to second gear and hit my new stop on the top.

Push button down to shift from second to third and hits stop on new bottom piece of steel.

Release button and I can shift to neutral.

Planning to finish up a couple things and get it back on the road this weekend.

is it quite a bit more effective to switch manually than to let the auto do the job? Do you change gears near red line?

Manually shifting lets you have more consistent times in the 1/4mile (important in drag racing), as opposed to letting the transmission shift automatically.

I only shift manually when racing at the drag strip.
