Default GM T-5 going in soon

I've done a lot of searching here about this swap and had a couple of ?s that I'm not sure were answered. My '79 is a stock 4 speed car.

1) Is it mandatory that you cut the crossmember in order to get the T-5 trans to fit?

2) Will my existing Super T-10 yoke work in the T-5?

3) Are there any other shifters besides the Mustang or GM that will line up better (have offset)? member John_65s shifters look good.

4) What wiring connection was made to get the reverse lights working?

thanks

Hey how's it going. When I did my first one the body was off. At that time I cut the c-m for the future, the 2nd one was an automatic conversion so it was removable. The trans is a lil bit longer. Thinking you will get it in there, perhaps with a little battle but time will tell. My 350 yoke fit, dont know about yours, sorry.

Before my interior was back togther I was using the Hurst t-5 shifter and boy was it quality. Especially from 2nd to 3rd. Just self aligns itself for you. I could have kept it but I really didnt want to change the stock look of the interior. That shifter comes up pretty high. Some guys use it and just cut the entire shifter gate open and use a bigger boot.

Just check ebay for a t5 reverse switch pigtail and solder and shrink wrap the wires to the current 2.

So I tried out my Super T-10 yoke and it is too big for the T-5.

I wondered what Yoke other T-5 users used in their swap? It looks like there are several choices out there.

Also- did you guys have to cut the crossmember to get the T-5 installed?
