78 carb or downshift downshift problem
I finally got to bring my 78 L-48 Vette home last week, had a break in the weather up here in Wisconsin, and drove it home the day before Easter. It was kept in heated storage, and the P.O. had it all set and warmed up when I got it. The drive home was about 1.5 hours at highways speed (65-70) and the car performed well, ran smooth, but idled a little rough but not too bad. Now this bring me to the first question.
When driving on the freeway, at about 60ish, went to pass another car, I stomped on the gas, and the best way to describe it, is the car lazily went around the other car. The engine speed up, but it didn't feel like it downshifted. I tried later on in town, at about 35-40 mph, stomped on it, it accelerated, but nothing I would say is worthy of a Corvette. Again, didn't feel like it downshifted. The kick down cable is connected, maybe out of adjustment? I think my 04 Suburban can out accelerate my Vette.

I thought maybe the carb was off, not giving the full acceleration. When it is cold, even though the choke appears to be working fine, you have to really baby it for the first 5-10 minutes, or you'll snub it out. After that is runs fine. It is my first Vette, so maybe they are just warm blooded.
Not quite sure if the secondaries are opening fully. When I open the carb fully running, the secondary baffles, on the top barley crack open. However I just found the little block out for the secondaries on the left side of the carb. I am off to work, won't be home until next week to check that out.
I know i tossed a lot on information, any insight would be awesome!!!
Thanks guys
Rich
