The only dual plane intakes that will fit under your stock hood are the original iron Q-jet intake for large oval port heads and the low profile LS-6 aluminum intake square flange for rectangle port heads. My experience in going from iron intake/Q-jet to TorkerII/Holley, was same performance, same throttle response. But I did shave about 30lbs. off the motor.
The Torquer is a street manifold and performs very good on street applications. While it is a single plane intake, it features a tiny plenum area and narrow intake runners to keep charge velocity high in the low RPM realm.
On the side; unless your carburetor has been professionally tuned by an authentic tuning company like Pro Systems, you might want to drop down to something in the 700-750 range in a vacuum or air valve secondary. A single plane intake can run a much smaller carburetor and, particularly with a Torquer, you'll have much better signal and response in that application.
Thanks Gerry72. I plan on taking the car to APS in OKC and have them go over it. http://www.aps-auto.com/
I just got the car back after about 6 months at a local place where they worked on it in their extra time. I took it in to get the wiper door working and to track down a battery drain. They never could manage those issues, but I did get a few other things done. I know need to address the carb. Thanks Gerry
