Guys, I could use some help with the right hand power window on my 1978.
The problem was that the inside of the door rattled like crazy when you shut the door. Also, when the window was raised, it was basically loose.. you could wiggle it side to side and there was like two inches of play.
I pulled the door a part.. All the rollers are shot.. I can see where the play comes from. The center pivot on the regulator is also shot. The tracks are good, etc.. I have the glass and tracks all out, what's left in there is the motor and regulator proper. All I see holding that assembly in place are two peel rivets which connect the top of the regulator to the door frame.. Is this correct?? How should that assembly be mounted?
Mine was secured with rivets as well, I think this is what the factory used. My only suggestion is to be very careful when you remove the regulator because it is under pressure from the spring (ask my finger how it knows)

Yep... I figured that out.. Luckily my finger was not in the way when the spring unloaded...
There were three rivets, and I drilled them all out. I might install rivnuts in the bracket before I reinstall... Will the whole assembly go back in as a unit or do I have to install it back in there as two pieces? the shop manual more or less says it will go in as a unit but I had to take the motor off to get the regulator out... which by the way was totally shot.... I ordered a repop and might play with rebuilding the old one...

Yikes! I'm glad you didn't lose a finger, I feel a little nauseous just thinking about what might have happened.
