Default Brake Light

My Brake light is on, the one in the tachometer cluster. Color is red. Is this related to the emergency brake or the proportioning valve? If the light pertains to both of these how can I determine which one is causing the light to be on?

Either the parking brake is set or there is an imbalance in the pressures of the front and back braking systems. Pull the wire from the proportioning valve. If the light stays on then the problem is with the parking brake. If the light goes out then the problem is in the hydraulic brake system. It may just need to be bled or you may have a leak in the system someplace. There is also a possibility that one of the wire to either the proportioning valve or parking brake switch has a short to ground but that is the least likely problem.

Thanks I pulled the proportioning plug and the light went out. I did determine that the light takes care of both the parking brake and the proportioning valve
