I will be ordering an aluminum rad., rad. support, shroud , V crossmember and hardware soon for my 72 small block. I dont think it will be too difficult getting these parts installed since I have all the A arms out.
i started doing that in the 70's. some laughed, but slowly every one i know started doing it. i was just protecting my hands, but figured out it helped in other ways too.

Any tips or advise that may help ?
Hi billkat, I went with a Dewitts to fit in my 77. I ordered it with the dual Spal fans. The rad fit without any issues but the fan mounting had to be altered slightly as the edge of the fan assembly was interfering with the driver side A arm. Other than that slight adjustment everything is good! Very nice product!
DeWitts is a great source for an aluminum radiator. Even if you are going with a mechanical fan, have them put the bung in for an electric fan temperature sensor. It goes right below the upper hose bib. I believe it's a no-charge option and you can just plug it if you don't need it.
They also go the extra mile if you have a special request. I made some braided lines for the transmission cooler and figured it would be nice to have a braided line from the radiator to the overflow tank. I used clamp covers but really didn't like the overflow tube on my original big block radiator. I asked them how much extra a -6 AN bung would be. They put it on with no extra charge.
