Has anyone used the Hedman Headers Model # 68096? Any fitment or ground clearance issues? I’m considering installation in a 71 big block with a 4-speed and power steering. Does anyone know whether the Hedman Universal X Tension Tubes bring the exhaust out to position that will match up with the factory exhaust? Lastly, will the divorce choke function properly with headers?
thats the same ones i'll be ordering for my 496 i'm putting in my 82. i think thats the ones forum member Rebelrob has on his bigblock in his 82. they seemed to fit pretty good. maybe he'll commenton them.
I'm using part # 68090, which has the same tube layout.
The fit was very good when I was using factory heads.
There was no dinging of the tubes required at all, and they tuck up very tight under the car.

I have no experience with the X tension tubes.
which collectors dothey have? are they ball and socket?
or do they use a collector gasket?
Yep, I think that is the ones I got. If they are the coated models, that is it. 2 inch primaries and 3 inch collectors.
They fit great except for the #3 tube. Had to take a rubber mallet and ding em to clear the stock steering box. Only reason I had to do this was I have after market aluminum heads with raised exhaust ports. If you have stock GM iron heads or maybe after market copy aluminum heads they should fit with no beatings required. You can grab the headers with yer hands after about 10-15 minutes after you shut the engine off.
GS977 nice looking 496 engine. Good seeing ya the at C&C. Your car is looking tuff, especially like the wheels and that big cowl hood.

Good to hear that they should fit well. I'm pretty much OEM. I just want to unstrangle the engine some.
