In my quest to make a lighter car the 81 Daytona front end and TT hood was more than 150 LBS. It was a noticable difference on how the car drove. The front end and a paint job was $7000 so it's not a practical gain. My sparco racing seat is 12.7 pounds.

I need to get it weighed so I can give you my final figure

I forgot to add. When I pulled everything out of the back to put the roll bars in. 1979 L-82 I pulled out the rear speakers the pull forward security shade and i could not believe how heavy the sound insulation stuff was. after the bars I decided to not put in all the heavy carpet and stock hard wheel well fiberboard and insulation. Instead i went with fire proof aluminized thermo tech thin padding and thin car type carpet.

I went with a 7 inch FluidDamper on my 427 which saved about
3 pounds. They have aluminum ones too - I'm going to ask them
if they're steetable at my next build.

I think Vette Brakes claims their control arms are lighter than stock.
I'd like to see some numbers on them...

Complete removal of the front swaybar will save 12-13 pounds on gymkhana cars. Maybe a little less on others.

ALL the carpeting and padding.
Remove passenger seat
replace door panels with aluminum or leave open
replace or remove steel inner door shell
replace dash panels w/ aluminum
late model aluminum rear differential & mounts
Racing tires

The stock dual hole trans cross member weighs a lot!!! BTO makes a tubular one that is very light. Don't know the exact numbers but I will try to weigh the extra x member in my garage.

Steve439,
Good tips. I have the VBP tubular control arms and there is no measurable difference in weight. They look cool, though.....

Adding horsepower does nothing for braking or handling. Getting rid of weight does.

More diet suggestions: lose power steering and power brakes.

Also, I know that in C1 (or was it C2) Vettes, power windows and locks inexplicably weighed less than their manual counterparts. Does anyone know whether this is the case for the C3?

I have heard the same thing...can anyone confirm? I wouldn't mind power windows...its a little tough to roll the passenger window up/down at speed with the roll bar ;)
