hey guys i need some help, i think i might have mixed up the wiring on the coil from my dads 74 350 vette. i have a 70 el camino and i thought the coil went out so i took my dads to test to see if mine would fire up... well it didnt and i didnt take a pic or right down what wires went on my dads coil because from what i remmeber only a single green wire was on the negative post and after i put it back it wouldnt turn on....
distributer wire goes to Neg (-) side along with Tach wire.
wire from ignition goes to Pos (+)
1974 still had mechanical tach drive distributor so only wire to points contact set on negative terminal. The positive terminal should have +12VDC wire from "S" terminal on starter motor and "+" wire from ignition switch it should be covered in cloth braid insulation. If. For some reason there is an electronic tachometer in the car then yes the tach signal goes on "-" coil terminal.
I'm looking at wire on "-" side of ignition coil looks like distributor might have a Pertronix Ignitor unit inside distributor. If you hooked it up backwards and it is an early Ignitor unit it's DEAD. The Ignitor 2&3 breaker less ignitions won't be hurt by reverse polarity but first design unit will be killed by that act. The question can be answer by popping the distributor cap and looking for points or Ignitor trigger unit.

yes it still has the original mechnical tach theres no electronic tach... so i opened the distributor yesterday and found it has a mallory ignitor which seems to be this one
i believe the ignition module that you linked to is for HEI aftermarket distributors. these dissy's have built-in coils. if you are using the stock coil, you don't need that module, and you may have a unit that replaces the mechanical points with an electronic switching unit. post a pic of what you have.
He won't be too mad he hardly drives it because the drivers seat has a broken bracket and he doesn't like how it moves around while driving. I took some pics of the module but didnt want to disassemble the entire distributor to get a pic of it but it looks like it's a mallory unilite unit, right now the wiring is correct but I believe I did have the wires mixed up at a point so probably next weekend I'm going to test the unit with a multimeter

So I'm working on it today I tested the module and yes it's bad but one question how to I remove the part above the module where the weight are attached?
