I've got an '88ish roller in mine with a right hand dip stick (through the block). No fitment problems at all. Not sure, but I bet there's not a ton of engine compartment differences in yours.
I've never seen a dipstick go just through the pan.
I can't answer if any came stock, but it should fit. My 80 has a passenger side, but I don't know if the engine is original. (I wanted the 4 speed, so I knew I was getting an L48 for a stock motor.)
I have a crate engine for my dirt track Camaro, and it came with the option of either side. I've never understood why GM moved it, it doesn't appear to hit anything or offer any advantages.
The dipstick moved to the passenger side in 1980. Truck blocks did not have the hole drilled for the dipstick tube but had a different setup that allowed easier access when leaning across the tall, wide truck fenders. It was a tube that was integral with the pan and allowed the engine to be serviced from the front or more easily from the side. Any truck block that I ever tried to reuse had a bad rear main cap due to the wear and tear from the thrust bearing pounding back and forth from the extreme usage (big clutch, heavy weight of the vehicle and cargo, etc.). I threw away a really nice appearing steel crank and four bolt block recently that came from a 50 series truck. Perfect cylinders, nice and clean inside, but the crank and main caps were garbage. It was going to cost more to fix it than replace it.
