Normal SBC cam change will do the job. Correct tool to remove and install the balancer, use a good 2 or 3 jaw puller to remove the crank gear, install the new crank gear. I heat them in the oven at 350* for about 30 minutes and use a short pipe to seat it. And work fast so it stays hot. Goes on much easier when hot. Look at the seal area on the balancer- if there's a groove from seal wear, put a speedi-sleeve on it unless you have another reason to replace it.

So your cam has a flattened lobe? If so, all that ground up metal is still in your engine.

plan to get more friendly with your local gas station, plan on your headlight doors working different, I took the almost new thumper out of mine and went with a factory 350 hp version, everything back to normal and works better with my 2004R swap

True, but the L79 cam has a ground in advance of 4 degrees; the L46 cam doesn't. But, if you advance the L46 cam with the crank gear or by using offset bushings in the cam gear, they're nearly identical.
