Alright so I was busy taking off the passenger side valve cover 2 nights ago. I accidentally pulled the coolant line off of the intake manifold. Coolant went everywhere for about 3 seconds before i threw the line back on and unhooked it from the red cap at the end of the black hose. Anways today when i fired it up i have white smoke rising from the driver side exhaust header. It gets worse the longer the car is on. Oh yea i also started it not realizing there was no more coolant anways. Thats problem #1
Number #2 is the driver side valve cover. I Accidentaly tightened the top left valve cover bolt too much and it broke clean off. When i drilled a hole and used an ez out to extract it that also broke clean off so I gave up and just used 3 of 4 bolts to hold it down. My question is, is that enough? And is it related at all too problem #1? Thanks!
Number #3 With new Air filter the engine wont rev past 3k and pedal feels stiff. I am checking the throttle arm tomorrow and will post pics.
Thanks guys! i really need it ready for a cruise coming up. Btw oil pressure and water pressure gas gauge and everything are all normal. Its a 1976 l48.
3. your air cleaner base is clustering your throttle linkage, rotate it slightly
2. if it doesnt leak, yes, if it leaks, no. I bet real money it will leak
1. put antifreeze in it
hope this helps
If you torqued the bolts down that tight and your valve covers are made of steel you probably have a somewhat disfigured valve cover that will need the flanges straightened out as well. If they are cast aluminum I would be surprised if they are not cracked.
Aren't you the 17 year old that was intent on putting a turbo kit on the car?
The white smoke is burning oil caused by a leaking valve cover.
yes that was me lol someone said that for smoke white = coolant, black = gas, and blue = oil. I think but i know he said white was coolant burning. The valve covers are not leaking. Atleast not from where the bolt is missing. I started it up today after filling it with antifreeze and it smoked for a couple seconds and the went away. When i turned car off it had a tad of smoke for like 2 seconds. And when I mean smoke I mean like barely visible white smoke i took a video. Ill try to get it uploaded soon.
No fluids on ground and oil is perfect and checked it today. So im thinking when i pulled the coolant line some coolant got in the block and is burning off.
And on the valve covers. They actually use a spacer which i forgot. So when i was tightening down the bolt and it was actually all the way in i didnt think it was so i kinda snapped it. It was my fault. The bolt had was still 1/2 from the flange so nothing is cracked or leaking.
alright no smoke this time starting it up so I think it burned off a little spilled coolant. Now on the rev problem. The throttle arm when going up is hitting the bottom of air filter. Anyway I turn it, it still hits. Is there a spacer you can buy? Btw when putting old air filter on everything runs perfect. Broken bolt dosent seem to be a problem at all. I will have it removed by a shop sometime though. Since when I used an EZ-OUT it just broke off inside the bolt...
this is the dress up kit I have since stock looks awful imo. Since im also going with new heads cam and intake should I just not even worry about the bolt? Im doing a whole new top end at the end of july.
#1 if i order my need heads that have a lift .5 and new intake. Will it still work fine without my new cam?
#2 what can i do about the air filter hitting the throttle arm?
Why would you get a new top end and not a new cam?
Anyway, if I understand your question... Heads do not have "lift", they have specifications for the maximum lift cam you can use. So, if you still have the stock cam, then yes the new heads will be fine.
Get a new cam to utilize the flow of better heads.
