72 4 spd thunk noise when shifting
I am finally at a point where I can get my car on the road! When out and driving i notice this... when I let the clutch out, doesn't matter what gear, there is a kinda thunk noise. It feels like it is in the rear of the car. Like something is tilting when it engages. If I am coasting and shift slowly and light it doesn't do it but if I am accelerating and shifting it does happen. The u-joints were inspected and have no play. I am thinking either the cushion for the trans brace or the rear end. What do you guys think and how do I diagnose?

Rear end
It sounds like the cushion that mounts the front of the differential to the frame. Not hard to replace and not expensive, which is somewhat of a rarity.

While you're there, check the two volts that hold that mount bracket to the diff. housing. If they loosen up, you will hear and feel a clunk as you described.

I had one of those bolts missing and the other loose. I also had a bad xmission mount.
Mine would thunk just looking at it.
