Default stuck in park

I just got the oil gasket changed and in less than 24 hrs later my car wont drop into any of the gears. My guess is the shifter cable. If it is how intense is the repair and if it isn't im open to possibilities.

cheers!

If you changed the pan gasket, you may not have gotten the shift connection reinstalled correctly.

Trying to remember all the steps involved here... Assuming you changed the trans pan gasket, will the shifter move through all the gears on the selector? Does it just not move when you put it in gear? Did you change the filter? Did you put the filter in correctly? It seems that there might be an O-ring that goes in on top of the filter. Did you check to be sure you have enough fluid in the transmission? I don't recall having to do anything with the cable other than putting the bracket back in the right location. There aren't too many choices, if I remember correctly.

If the shifter is jammed in park, its most likely the rod that goes to the steering shaft. Start the car and grab the lower column and give it a twist while you work the shifter. That might free it up!

That rod lays inthe trans bracket loosely and it doesn't take much to move it or jam it up. The rod is designed to lock your car in park with the key out.
