Small block accessory brackets
My recent acquisition has an 86 or newer engine in place of the original L-48. That is fine as it runs good, but the PO used the original newer brackets/mounts instead of the originals off the L-48. So now I have no A/C and the alternator is on the top right like a full size GM. Will older 350 parts work on the newer engine? I'd like to get things back in the right places. I have little information about the differences between the 85 and older engines compared to the newer style with the valve cover mounts on top instead of perimeter mounts.

I actually had a 86 motor out of a camaro in my 76 vette. All I did was take the original brackets off the old motor and installed on the new motor. Make sure you have a short water pump on the 86 motor. All the a/c brackets worked on the 86 motor but with the original rams horn exhaust manifolds.
The 86 motor has centerbolt valve covers so you cannot use original valve covers

if your current heads have the three accessory holes in the front of the head, older brackets should work. the only issue I can think of is that the three accessory holes on the front of my 87 are spaced a bit different then my 76. a drill and a die grinder fixes that. if you're not interested in using the stock 'boat anchor OE brackets' a company called 'Allen Grove' , makes some excellent brackets that work better, look better, and will work in custom applications. good folks to deal with also, used them on both sides of my 76 I can get at the passenger side plugs now without issue

If you are running headers, you can put the alternator on either side using a Header Power Bracket.
