Hey guys. A follow up post from a recent no start thread. Turns out the dizzy was not tight and rotated to far forward and was causing a no start , no spark. So turning the dizzy backwards (counterclock) gets the motor closer to in time and the car fires right up and runs much better.
I can not seem to tighten the dizzy down, it keeps spinning. Seems easy enough , tighten the black bracket down located under the dizzy and it should lock in place, well the bracket tightens but the dizzy still moves.
So I am guessing I am not on the right path here, or the maybe the bracket it not sitting on the dizzy in the right position to keep it from moving.
I give up on how to add an image!!! Got to be an easier way!
That dizzy hold down clamp and bolt is straight forward. Pull it off and see if it's stripped or if someone installed one that doesn't clamp down properly.
I don't know if this is your case, but my hold down clamp is slotted and if you loosen to much it will slide off the distributor. Then when you tighten it it will tighten up against the distributor and not on top of the increased odds that contacts the distributor gasket like it needs to be in order clamp the distributor into place. Like I said this may not be your case but hope this helps. Blue
If the clamp is slipping off the ring on the distributor or the clamp is flattened out to much it won't put enough pressure on the distributor to hold it. It really doesn't take much to lock the distributor. I've got mine loose enough I can (with effort) turn the distributor on the fly, yet it's tight enough it won't move on it's own.

I can tighten it all the way down, and it still has enough play where it will move forward and retard the timing to much as you drive.
I can see the clamp does touch the dizzy, but it does not seem to lock it at all.
A picture of what it "should" look like would be helpful!
Just for a test, put a thick flat washer under the back end of the clamp and see if it gets tight.
The clamp does get tight , the bolt will snug up to the block, but the dizzy will not lock. Are you thinking the washer under the clamp to raise the clamp higher? Are there notches on the dizzy the clamp is supposed to fit into?
I think the issue may be my clamp is to big , the opening of my clamp does not fit the ring on the dizzy , the clamp has to large of an opening. It is a black notched clamp.
Having never seen the correct way , I am guessing that the large ring (blackish grey on image) on the dizzzy sits on the gasket and seals, the small ring above it (shiny metal) is what the clamp fits around and the rounded clamp holds that ring...
If this is correct , then my clamp is to big for that ring!
Can someone verify ?? Or direct me in the right direction?
