Default Hood Alignment

On the way to work this morning I noticed that the drivers side tip of the hood closest to the windshield sits up higher than the passenger side. How does one adjust this?

I am an expert on how not to do this. Want the details?
The windshield side of the hood height is determined by the height of those ***** shaped pins mounted inside the engine compartment.

Those pins are locked in place with a sort of retainer (?) You can loosen them by banging the retainer loose, using a screwdriver and a hammer. Once it is loose you can turn the pin, say, one half turn clockwise to move it a bit lower, then lock it in place using your screwdriver and hammer again. The only problem is when you lower the pin the hood may not latch properly. Also, be very careful that when you lower the hood it does not make contact with the air cleaner or distributor area. I have wingnuts that hold down a distributor shield, and I lowered my hood enuf to make contact with the wingnut!!! OUCH!!!

Another warning: Once you start messing with the hood adjustment, and it doesnt quite close properly, you may find yourself in the endless cycle of adjusting the hood, driving, having hood pop open when you hit a bump, adjusting the hood again, etc etc etc...... I finally found the "sweet spot" after countless attempts, but recently screwed around with the hood latches to clean them up..... Now I am still looking for that sweet spot again!!!! MJ

Not sure how your hood bumpers look but try this tip I gave Steve on his L88 hood. I think the bumpers are the same through the years.

I've just learned to live with this item. After a while it's not really that big of deal.

Any way to adjust the front of the hood? You'll notice mine's about a quarter inch too high at the front in the pic below.

On my 77, I found two shims behind each latch/hook on the hood. One was 1/16", on top of 1/8". I removed the 1/16" shim to bring that side down a little further. It worked, but hood still not perfect. Can live with it though....
