timing scatter
i noticed some timing scatter at about 2000-2500 rpm, about 4-5 deg. is this normal with points? i think i was used to the consistency of my (late) pertronix thing. distributor endplay is .004, and is in good mechanical shape.

Timing scatter can only be caused by several things. Like is your damper broken from the inner to outer ring? Does your cam gear and chain have slop or ware? Does your dist. have a rock steady correct tooth engaugement? Are your plugs and plug wires perfect so you don't have crossfire or arcing?
I have not run points in any vehicle since the mid 70's. IMO people who do are about 30 years down on evolution
