So, lot of carbon build up on old sparkys, pulled them put new ones in and now theyre carboning up as well.... tried the CRC (safer seafoam stuff) treatment to the main vacuum on intake. Both pipes smoked really good like it was supposed to (did this treatment few days ago)
Just got done doing another treatment and only the pass side pipe is smoking.. and smoking ALOT, drivers side... no smoke...
What im HOPING is happening is the drivers side of the motor is all clean of carbon and pass is still quite dirty.... and I should wait another day or so and do another treatment until pass side doesn't smoke anymore... BUUUT I would think they should both still smoke cause its still burning up the CRC treatment... idk what do you think?
There isn't enough money to get me to put crap like sea foam in my engine. If your plugs are fouling you're either running too rich or burning oil and engine cleaners isn't going to fix that. I have however seen more than one engine ruined using that garbage.

ya, this stuff was built to compete with seafoam I guess its a lot safer.. (heard from a few mechanics) anyways, ive backed the "idle" screws for the edelbrocks (not the actual idle screw the 2 in the front is what im talking about) all the way back so in idle its not running rich, well supposedly its not... what else can I do to turn the gas down, ive got the FPR set at 4-5psi... I don't know what else to do..
Truck fleets and police fleets use it and it apparently saves them maintenance money. So.... one person's "garbage" is someone else's treasure, I guess.
All it does is steam clean the engine while it's running. No damage done...just cleans out the carbon deposits.
It's nice that folks have negative opinions about something they've never tried. But, that's pretty useless feedback....
also, the plugs are fouling out but its not oil, its a black soot... carbon... hence why I was doing the CRC treatments, after the first treatment car ran ALOT better then b4, but still isn't where Id trust it to go for even a small round the block with it, im sure itd do fine but my blocks about 5-6miles and that's along walk....
Soot means rich- with it running, is raw gas dripping down the center of the carb from the boosters? Is the exhaust really stinking? The the power enrichment circuit may have a problem. Sticking piston or metering rods. Maybe the float level is too high.
And save your cash- as 7T1 noted- all the CRC or Seafoam does is steam clean the carbon deposits out of the cylinders. Water does the same thing and is way cheaper.

You're right on that i have never tried it and never will after watching a friend of mine's engine go south using that crap. Good detergent gasoline and a good quality oil is all you ever need. All the so called cleaners are snake oil designed to empty your wallet.
Yep. Old school. Hold the throttle open a little and SLOWLY drizzle water into the carb. Makes a nasty mess the first time but it will really clean out the carbon. You are definitely running rich. If it is a QuadraJet, I'd guess the float is gas logged and not shutting off the needle valve. I've had that problem with some old floats. Adjust the float level carefully when you reassemble.
Yes. Old school method is to SLOWLY use an old 12 ounce Coke bottle. Make sure that the water goes through the carb bores and not into the float bowl vents.
Sooty plugs sound like a too rich mix.
Screwing those 2 adjustment screws in will lean out the idle mixture.
If you can screw those 2 adjustment all the way in and your engine continues to run. You're not in the idle circuit.
Lars has written some very informative carb tuning papers. Even if you think you know how a carb works, a read of those papers will learn you something
yea I watched that one, doesn't show how to ADJUST the carb to give it less gas.... it just kinda explains what the carb does and what hookups its got....
