Default what angle ignition lead boots ?

Hi
Look at the pic, the piston 1 and 3 ignition lead boots are nearly touching my 68 big block Hooker headers and start burning away.
They are still OK, but for how much longer.
The boot angle is about 45 , the ignition leads are TAYLOR SPIRO-PRO 8mm SILICONE.
What do you big block guys do here ?
Thanks Gunther

Hi
Come on guys, there must be a solution.
Shorter ignitors, shorter boots or what ?
Can I cut off this boots and install others or do I need a complete new cable set ?
Which one ?
Thanks Gunther

My vette is a 71 with factory manafolds (sp?). I ran into the cooking problem also. I used a silver cloth type materal as a sleeve to cover the sparkplug wire boots. I forgot the name of what they are called but NACSAR uses them. They around $30 but well worth it. I figure with 45 degree boots and the protective cloth should do it for ya.
good luck

I had a problem with one of my straight boot wires resting against the steering box so I cut about 3/4 inch off the end and pushed the wire further up in the boot. Looks to me you need 90 degree angle boots. Might try cutting the ends off but not sure if those wires will slide up into the boot at all. Don't think those boots will last long and might be shorting out already.

Another option is the shorty Accel plugs, they'll give you a bit more room. 90 degree boots would probably clear better.
If you want to spend some big bucks, Jacobs has some ceramic ended plug wires. They are pricey but a BB equipped motorhome I work on, those were the ones that stood the test of a summers cruise all others melted.

Thanks,
Scott, pls give me some contact info for Jacobs, may be an internet side.
The picture looks worse as it actually is. Only the corner of the boots is melted. There is a good gap between the headers and the boots, they just don't stand the heat.
May be the insulation trick will halp a bit till i get keramic boots.
I don't want to flatten the headers.

1) put you stock manifolds back on, The are a piece of art. I have been saying this since I stumbled on this board. Best thing you can do wrap the wires with header wrap, that will make them last a bit longer.
