Having a strange problem on 75 convertable. When you try to start the car you have to push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and turn the key hard till it can't go any more to start the car, and sometimes this does not work and you have to try a second time. What causes this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?
Well, as a fellow "75 , 4-speed convertible owner - Hello. You may be having trouble with the rod that runs from the key lock cylinder down to the contact assembly on the column or it may be related to the clutch interlock switch. I bypassed the interlock switch many decades ago. Also these old 350's are noted for starter solenoid contact problems when they age or are replaced with cheap rebuilt starters.
I did replace the ignition switch due to lost key and installed a key buzzer switch. How can I determine if it's the column or the clutch switch? How do you bypass the clutch switch?
To bypass the switch first get a wiring diagram and get real small to crawl under the dash. Find the switch and then cut and splice to bypass the switch. The wires are large gauge, 12 I think. It was a long time ago when I did mine.
