Default Help determining fuel problem

I have a 1978 anniversary edition that I bought last year. Never ran great, but did, at least, run some last year. This year when I got it out of the garage, it would start, run some, then quit.

Two weeks ago, it quit while I was driving it and hasn't started since that time. It will start when ether is sprayed into the carb and when gasoline is put in the carb. Have replaced the fuel pump. Doesn't appear that fuel is reaching the pump.

Any ideas what is wrong, what I need to check, and how to check it. Any help would be appreciated.

There are 3 places to look. In the fuel tank to fuel pump line there are 2 places that have rubber flex lines- one at the tank and one from the frame to the fuel pump. Rubber hoses can dry out and crack allowing the pump to suck air. The line from the frame to the pump is a molded S shaped hose to keep it from kinking. The 3rd thing is in the tank- there is a filter in the tank on the end of the pickup tube (called a sock) that rarely needs anything, but they have been known to collapse or plug up.

If the original Qjet is still on there, there is also supposed to be a small filter at the fuel inlet of the carb...check there and see if it's plugged up.
